About the Lost Canuck

“You are not here merely to make a living.  You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement.  You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.”Woodrow Wilson

What is the Lost Canuck?

Around the time that I turned 30 years old I realized that something was missing in my life.  I had an amazing job, a good place to live, good friends and hobbies that I enjoyed – but it was never enough.  In 2014 I took a trip to Sri Lanka that changed everything for me, and pushed me to travel as much as possible moving forward.

Travel has taught me many things.  It’s taught me to pause and appreciate simplicity.  It’s taught me to be patient, sometimes incredibly patient.  I’ve learned to be happy by myself, not looking to others to fulfil my needs.  I’m a more empathetic and compassionate person than before.  I’ve become more resourceful and resilient.  I’ve learned to face my fears, to say “yes”, and to embrace being vulnerable with others.  Most importantly, it’s shown me that I was spending my time and energy pursuing someone else’s definition of success instead of finding my own.

About Steve

Prior to deciding to travel, I held a leadership position in the technology industry for 10 years.  I worked with a great company and wonderful people while travelling all over Western Canada.About Profile-min

My home was just on the edge of the Canadian Rockies and when I wasn’t working I could usually be found hiking up a ridge on one of those mountains, navigating the glacier fed rivers in my kayak down below, riding mountain bikes cross country, or camping with my golden retriever Rose.

When I’m not in the mountains, I help small to medium sized businesses make the best decisions with their technology dollars.  In between work and play, I’m a passionate volunteer with Habitat for Humanity both here at home and around the world through their Global Village program – one of the best and most sustainable ways to make a difference in the global community.
